![]() ![]() Content-wise, Fallout Shelter seems to be very minimalistic. The challenging gameplay is enjoyable and quite addictive. It's a fun game where you never seem to have everything in plenty. The bigger your vault gets, it gets more and more difficult to manage everything. Adding to that, attacks from raiders, fire or invasions are pretty common which can throw your planning into chaos. It's all about planning the manpower, resources, and factories so that everyone is happy and satisfied. You need to assign citizens with specific characteristics to specific factories to optimize production. Citizens are assigned to work in factories where they earn resources. You need to wait, there's no way to speed up things, even by shelling out cash. When you start building a structure, they are not built instantly. New citizens are born or recruited into your vault for whom you need to build houses for them, build water treatment plants to provide clean and fresh water for them and various other institutions that generate food and power. The gameplay is easy to understand and play. Thematically, it’s faintly reminiscent of Papers Please, the enormously successful indie game from 2013 – at least from first impressions. It is clear from the very beginning that something has gone wrong in the past in this world, as the visual clues indicate a society currently struggling with rationing and labour in exchange for basic needs like accommodation and food. Presented as a 2D, side-scrolling pixelated world, you are a train driver and sometime engineer in a grey, dystopian, industrial location where resources are scarce. ![]() It’s a simple game, with a high concept wrapped up in mystery and revealed slowly as you progress, but with gameplay mechanics that ultimately stutter a little towards the latter stages. ![]() The Final Station is an interesting game, one that has an overwhelming sense of inevitability and futility about it. |
